2011 Leh Bike Trip

Even the best laid out plans don't pull off when you set out to conquer what has consistently been among the front contenders for being the most treacherous road in the world.

I've been asked by many friends to do the Manali-Leh-Shrinagar circuit but I ignored them (except once back in 2007) because I felt that this road was over hyped just as Enfield bikes are hyped up as THE vehicle for this trip.

Any biker worth his salt talks of this route as the road to heaven but I just didn't get the deal. Instead, I was more interested in doing the Manali-Spiti circuit and had already collected some information on it. Now, having been there done that I can see that I was wrong and right. Wrong because this road deserves every adulation it gets and right because this trip isn't about which bike you ride – you can even do it on a cycle.

I hope you enjoy this travelogue, which can be read in sequence if you start from the link for 2nd July 2011. Each day links/(will link) to a separate blog post.

You can see how wildly we deviated from our original, well laid out plans. If words put you to sleep then head over to the photo album. The captions do a good job of summarizing the trip.
